This bill aims to better safeguard children from sexual exploitation by updating Commonwealth laws on child abuse material, overseas abuse, forced marriage, and reporting obligations.
It would create new criminal offences for Commonwealth officers who fail to protect a child in their care from sexual abuse or fail to report such abuse to police.
The bill would also lower from three to two the number of separate abuse occasions needed to prove the offence of persistent overseas child sexual abuse.
